Ukraine will soon receive a new batch of robotic demining equipment, funded by France.
The French company CNIM Systèmes Industriels, in cooperation with the Estonian Milrem Robotics, will deliver 6 ROCUS robotic systems based on the THeMIS platform to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES). This is stated in the official press release of the Milrem Robotics company.
"We are proud to continue to support Ukraine through the contract with CNIM Systèmes Industriels. THeMIS UGVs have already proven their versatility and reliability in various operational scenarios in Ukraine and elsewhere," said Kuldar Väärsi, CEO of Milrem Robotics.
The French ROCUS system integrates a dedicated CNIM demining module on the Estonian THeMIS platform, which is a tracked autonomous ground vehicle. Thanks to remote control, operators can carry out explosive ordnance clearance operations without putting themselves at risk.
Technologically, the THeMIS platform is equipped with sensors and cameras to detect mines and other threats, and a demining module allows them to be safely neutralized. The system is capable of operating in difficult conditions, such as rough terrain or destruction, making it indispensable for infrastructure restoration.
Ukraine has already received 15 THeMIS platforms, including the first 7 ROCUS units delivered in 2022. The new vehicles will help ensure safe access to roads, agricultural lands, and facilitate the recovery of communities affected by hostilities. The State Emergency Service will be the main operator of these systems, using them for humanitarian demining and rehabilitation of territories.
