The experience of Ukrainian air defense in repelling massive Russian missile and drone attacks has significantly improved the effectiveness of the Patriot air defense system. This opinion was expressed by Tyler Rogoway, editor-in-chief of The War Zone, in a post on his Twitter page, Militarny reports.
According to Rogoway, a number of updates to the Patriot software appeared after intensive combat use in Ukraine. The experience of the Russian-Ukrainian war formed the basis for the modernization of the hardware part of the complex.
It is the Patriot systems in the PAC-3 modification that have extensive experience in successfully repelling Russian combined attacks using a significant number of maneuvering Russian ballistic missiles, including the latest Kinzhal hypersonic missiles.
Tyler Rogoway noted that anti-aircraft gunners from Saudi Arabia also played a certain role in the modernization of the American system, having experience in repelling Houthi air attacks. However, the main experience for improving the complex remains the experience of Ukrainian air defense.
By the way, amid uncertainty over the supply of the required number of missiles to the Ukrainian Defense Forces for the Patriot air defense system and other high-tech air defense systems of American production, Ukraine has begun developing its own missiles for the NASAMS air defense system. The work will be carried out jointly with the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.
