The Danish Navy has deployed Voyager surface drones to patrol the Baltic and North Seas amid tensions in the region, Militarnyi.com reports, citing AFP and The Washington Post.

There are four Voyagers in total. Their testing will continue for the next three months.

"They will perform their tasks in the Baltic Sea, the North Sea, and other inland waters of Denmark," Lt. Gen. Kim Jørgensen, the director of Danish National Armaments at the Ministry of Defense, explained to AFP.

The drones are manufactured by the American company Saildrone. According to its data, the Voyager is 10 m long, powered by wind and solar energy, and can remain autonomous at sea for three months.

Drones resemble sailboats from a distance. They are also equipped with sensors that can scan underwater objects at depths of up to 300 m. In addition, they have radar, infrared and optical cameras, sonar and other sensors.

Saildrone founder and CEO Richard Jenkins likened Voyager to a "truck" that carries sensors and uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to provide "a complete picture of what's above and below the water's surface."

Recall that in 2024, several submarine cables in the Baltic Sea were damaged. There were suspicions of Russia's involvement in this situation. In addition, recently, the Deputy Minister of Defense of Lithuania Karolis Aleksa said that the Russian Federation is increasingly blocking signals of the global navigation satellite system GPS.
