Startup from Latvia introduced the Pike marine drone for surveying underwater objects
At the DSEI 2025 exhibition in London, Latvian startup SUBmerge Baltic showed off its autonomous underwater vehicle Pike, Army Recognition reports.
This drone is designed to patrol, map, and survey critical underwater infrastructure near shore. The marine drone can operate in both guided and fully autonomous modes. It can inspect underwater pipelines or cables for damage.
The first application is designed for an eight-hour working period with a distance of several hundred meters, suitable for thorough inspection or port work. The second allows for operation for several days and hundreds of kilometers away from the base, although this depends on the weather and payload.
Pike has a modular frame that allows you to change sensors without sending the drone to the factory. It is also known that the drone is powered by batteries, but its characteristics are not given. In addition, it is noted that the underwater drone can be launched from a small boat or directly from a pier.
The publication notes that the topic of underwater security is currently a priority for NATO, amid a series of incidents in which cables and pipelines were damaged in the Baltic Sea area. Therefore, Pike may well take its place in the defense structure.
A drone alone won't stop a saboteur or replace escorts, boarding parties, or satellite surveillance. But it can reduce blind spots and make routine inspections cheaper.
Earlier, the German company EUROATLAS introduced a new underwater drone, Greyshark. It comes in two versions and is able to independently change its tasks. For this, it has artificial intelligence.
