Ukrainian military shoots down Russian Orlan carrying FPV drones for the first time
Anti-aircraft gunners of the 118th Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have for the first time destroyed an unusual Russian Orlan drone, which was acting as a carrier of FPV drones. This was reported by the unit.
Previously, the pilots of the 118th Mechanized Brigade's interceptor drones had already shot down "Orlans", "Zals", and "Supercams", but back then these were ordinary reconnaissance systems. But they shot down the version of the drone-mother for the first time.
The photo published by the unit shows FPVs mounted under the wings of the Orlan. It is difficult to say exactly what kind of FPVs these are, but they are most likely 10- or 13-inch versions. It is currently unknown what warhead they were carrying .
It should be noted that similar projects are being developed for Ukraine. The German company Quantum Systems is preparing a new carrier drone called Sparta for the Ukrainian Defense Forces, which will be able to transport two FPV drones over a distance of up to 200 km.
