ZA/UM Studio, which took away Disco Elysium, announced a new game PROJECT [C4]
Estonian-British company ZA/UM has announced a new game called PROJECT [C4]. The studio describes the game as a surreal spy RPG that will "distort consciousness." The story will center on a mysterious "operative" who serves a "dubious state."
The trailer has sparked a wave of outrage. This may seem incomprehensible, given the near-universal adoration for the studio's previous game, Disco Elysium, but fans have their own explanations for it.
In 2021, investor Ilmar Kompus fired three key developers of the game, including the author of the original idea, writer Robert Kurwitz. The company's management acquired the rights to the game and sued the developers. Disco Elysium screenwriter Argo Tuulik was even forced to start fundraising to survive the winter.
The British YouTube channel People Make Games filmed a detailed investigation about this.
DE fans were also angered when they saw the line “We brought you Disco Elysium” in the PROJECT [C4] trailer. However, some members of the original team remained at the studio, including writer Justin Keenan and artist Anton Will.
