YouTube has begun testing a new tool for content creators that allows them to add collaborators to videos, Engadget reports. The feature is similar to the shared publishing mechanism on Instagram and TikTok. Its goal is to promote channels to different audiences.
Primary creators will be able to list other contributors to a video, and their names will appear next to the primary creator's name on the channel page. If there are many contributors, the mobile version will show "...and others," which will open a full list of people with "Subscribe" buttons.
The process for adding a collaborator to a video will likely be the same as on Instagram and TikTok: the primary creator of the content will have to send an invitation, which the other creator must approve. It is also currently unknown whether collaborators will have access to the video insights that the primary creator sees.
A Google spokesperson told the YouTube Help forum that the feature is currently only available to a limited number of users. YouTube plans to take feedback from testers into account before making a decision on whether to roll out the feature more widely.
