YouTube officially introduces Premium Lite – an ad blocker for $7.99

YouTube is officially launching a cheaper, less feature-rich subscription called Premium Lite. It's already available to users in the US for $7.99 per month, and will later be tested in Thailand, Germany, and Australia.

Premium Lite is a paid ad blocker for YouTube. Unlike the regular Premium subscription, users will not be able to download videos or access YouTube Music.

However, Premium Lite does not even guarantee complete ad-freeness. Users on this plan may still encounter ads while listening to music, watching Shorts, or browsing or searching on the platform.

Additionally, Premium Lite lacks another important feature — playing videos or tracks in the background. To take advantage of all these features, users will have to subscribe to the standard Premium.
