YouTube has a new player design

- 11 July, 03:35 PM

While Google often tests various changes to YouTube's appearance on both smartphones and the web, the popular service's player has remained largely unchanged for many years. But now, that's changing too.

Users on social media, including Reddit, have been sharing screenshots of the revamped YouTube player design. It highlights controls like the play button, subtitles, settings, and more, and has a transparency somewhat similar to Liquid Glass.

Another significant design change is that the volume slider, which for years was located on the left side, next to the play button, next video switcher, and time, has been moved to the right, next to other controls. At the same time, its appearance has been changed.

The design changes also affected some other elements of YouTube, such as the buttons for saving videos to a "Watch Later" playlist or playing the next video in the queue. These are also implemented in the updated player design.

YouTube has not yet made any official statements about the design change, and it has not yet appeared on everyone, so it is not entirely clear whether this will become a new standard for the video platform, or whether the company is just testing possible updates.
