Xiaomi founder Lei Jun announced plans to use his own mobile processors in the company's flagship devices. During a presentation held on Thursday, May 22, he also introduced the first chip, the Xring O1. Bloomberg reports.

Jun expressed ambitions to expand Xiaomi's technology portfolio to compete with American tech giants, including plans to push Apple into China. To that end, the company is working on the Xring O1, which will be used in at least three devices, one of which will be the Xiaomi Tablet 7 Ultra, as well as the Xiaomi 15S Pro smartphone.

"We also want to become one of the leading chip manufacturers, as our phones are aimed at competing with the iPhone, but can our chips be compared to Apple's chips?" Jun said.

The company's proprietary mobile processor should become a competitor to Apple and Qualcomm chips. At the same time, Lei Jun admits that the Xring O1 is currently inferior to Apple's solutions in some parameters. However, he emphasizes that its appearance is an important breakthrough for Xiaomi.

As for the specifications of the Xring O1, it is built on TSMC's 3nm N3E process, has a 10-core cluster with two Cortex-X925 cores clocked at 3.9GHz, six Cortex-A725 cores clocked between 1.9-3.4GHz, and two Cortex-A520 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. It also supports LPDDR5T RAM, UFS 4.1 storage, USB 3.2 Gen2, and Wi-Fi 7.

According to Xiaomi, its processor scored over 3 million points in the AnTuTu test, beating the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The Xring O1 also scored over 3,000 points in the single-core test and 9,000 points in the Geekbench 6 multi-core test. In the multi-core test, it beat the Apple A18 Pro.

By the way, during the same presentation, the debut of the Xiaomi YU7 electric crossover is expected. Meanwhile, the company is still trying to restore trust after a tragic accident involving the Xiaomi SU7 electric car, which led to a drop in sales and a decrease in the value of its shares.

The new electric car is expected to go on sale in July 2025, but as Jun wrote on social media, Xiaomi is not yet ready to open pre-orders and announce the price.
