Microsoft adds a separate tab in Windows Settings for the device's quick recovery feature

- 4 June, 06:29 PM

Microsoft has announced that Windows Insiders using the Beta Channel will soon start seeing a new tab in System Settings that will allow them to more easily configure the Quick Machine Recovery (QMR) feature.

Microsoft will add a new page to the System menu, called Recovery, that will provide access to important options if you have problems starting Windows. There, you can check whether QMR is enabled, how often the system checks for it, and configure automatic restarts to apply fixes.

"Quick machine recovery is designed to help your device recover from widespread boot issues by applying remediations delivered directly from Microsoft," the company blog says.

QMR was introduced in November 2024 to enable administrators to remotely recover Windows devices when they encounter critical errors. QMR will automatically search for fixes for the error in the cloud and recover from common failures.

The feature is built on Startup Repair and uses the Windows Protected Recovery Environment with network access to search for solutions through Windows Update.
