Microsoft accidentally replaced Windows 11's startup sound with the sound from Windows Vista

Microsoft accidentally replaced the familiar Windows 11 startup sound with the Windows Vista startup sound. Such changes appeared in the latest test build of the operating system, writes The Verge.

Windows 11 testers noticed the changes shortly after the release of the new Dev Channel update, version 26200.5651, on Friday evening. The .wav file that is responsible for the system startup sound has been replaced with a sound from Windows Vista, which was first released in late 2006.

Microsoft employees immediately reacted to this discovery. In particular, Brandon LeBlanc from the Windows Insider team in X joked that he had specifically replaced the Windows 11 startup sound to remind users of the past.

At the same time, in the comments to the same post, he noted that this is actually a bug, although he does not say how exactly it happened. The announcement of the update on Microsoft's website states that the company is already working on a fix.

It's unclear exactly how such a "bug" could have happened, as these are completely different files from different systems. Although it may have been a special temporary change, as many users online in the last week have mentioned Vista against the backdrop of the introduction of Liquid Glass in the design of Apple's operating systems, which resembles the Aero Glass design.
