Developer NTDev has successfully run the ARM version of Windows 11 on an iPad Air M2. To do this, he used the UTM emulator with support for Just-In-Time (JIT) compilation and the new European Union rules on the openness of operating systems. This is reported by Windows Latest.

Since the iPad does not support direct virtualization for third-party applications, the developer used JIT compilation to ensure better and smoother operation of the operating system.

The European Union played a key role through the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Since the EU required Apple to open its operating system to third-party app stores, NTDev was able to download AltStore Classic and install the JIT-enabled UTM from there.

NTDev has launched a simplified version of Windows 11 for iPad, Tiny11. It is devoid of unnecessary programs and services, which allows to reduce memory requirements and improve overall performance. At the same time, such a solution has certain limitations: although Windows 11 on iPad works quite stably, without full support for virtualization, it will not be possible to achieve ideal performance.
