Windows 11 gets an update with improvements for HDR and Dolby Vision

- 29 May, 05:30 PM

Microsoft has released update KB5058499 for Windows 11, which improves HDR support and gives users more control over display settings. In particular, you can now individually enable HDR video streaming even if system-wide HDR is disabled in Windows.

This update will be useful for users who have disabled HDR due to unstable support or issues displaying SDR content. For example, you can now watch HDR videos from Netflix or YouTube without changing your system display settings.

In addition, Windows now has the ability to separately enable or disable Dolby Vision - previously, this option was automatically activated by the system if the monitor supported it.

Update KB5058499 is now available to users who have enabled the "receive updates as soon as they're released" option.

By the way, along with the new HDR settings, Microsoft also continues to optimize compatibility with modern OLED displays, which are increasingly appearing on the market.

Recall that Microsoft recently introduced a new platform for Windows 11, which will allow third-party software developers to use the Windows Update service to update their own applications.
