WhatsApp adds audio meeting feature for groups of any size
WhatsApp is introducing voice chats for groups of any size, so users can communicate in real-time via audio at any time, without leaving a group conversation.
Unlike the existing group-wide call feature, the new voice meetings will not notify everyone at once, but instead will work like voice channels in Discord.
Starting a voice conversation doesn't trigger a notification or call, so users can join and leave the meeting at any time. The voice conversation remains pinned to the bottom of the chat so users can easily access the controls and new participants can join.
Previously, this feature was only available for large groups on WhatsApp, but now anyone in the group can start a voice conversation by scrolling down to the bottom of the chat, swiping up, and holding for a few seconds.
The developers also note that WhatsApp protects voice conversations along with personal calls and messages using end-to-end encryption, which is enabled by default in the messenger.
We remind you that in April, WhatsApp, which is already used by over three billion people every month, began testing the ability to make voice or video calls directly in the web version of the messenger.
