WhatsApp for Android has begun testing a chat summary feature powered by artificial intelligence. The feature is available to some users who have updated to beta version 2.25.18.18, WABetaInfo reports.
The message summary feature will use Meta AI to create a short summary of messages in both individual and group chats. Messages are processed locally using Private Processing to protect user privacy.
By enabling the feature in settings, users will see a new Summarize with Meta AI button in chats that have a lot of new messages. However, it is optional and can be turned off completely.
Currently, message summarization in WhatsApp will be inactive if users have enabled additional protection, Advanced Chat Privacy.
WhatsApp is also expected to introduce another AI-based feature called Writing Help. It will use AI to rewrite messages, change their tone, edit, or make other changes before sending them. Like summarization, this feature will use Private Processing.
We remind you that recently WhatsApp, which is already used by over 3 billion people every month, finally got a native app for iPad. In addition, the messenger now supports voice chat for any groups, like in Discord.
