VSCO, the maker of the popular photo editor of the same name, is releasing its own camera app for the iPhone. The Capture app will offer users the company's signature filters and presets without having to use the editor, Bloomberg reports.
Capture will be available on iOS in test markets Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand over the next few weeks. The company plans to launch the app in the U.S. at a later date. There are no plans for an Android version at this time.
"Photographers increasingly are moving away from using overly complicated editing software and are using apps that make it easier to get that right moment with a desired aesthetic right at the point of capture," VSCO CEO Eric Wittman said in an interview.
Capture will be a free app, but will require a VSCO account to use. Users will have access to 50 presets, as well as automatic or manual shooting modes. The latter will offer settings such as shutter speed, exposure, and visual effects.
At launch, Capture, unlike VSCO's main photo editor, will not have AI-based features. However, users will be able to easily export photos taken in the app to the editor for further processing if necessary.
As a reminder, a similar app was previously introduced by Adobe's experimental department. In addition to the company, former Google Pixel camera software developers also worked on Project Indgio.
