Volkswagen showed a concept of an electric car for €20,000
Volkswagen has unveiled a concept for its upcoming budget electric car at an event in Wolfsburg, Germany. The automaker describes the ID.EVERY1 as an “smart, flexible and affordable” electric car for the masses. The production version of the car is expected to cost around €20,000 and debut in 2027.
The car uses the MEB platform developed by Volkswagen. This platform is flexible enough to support different body styles. The company plans to launch four electric models (including the ID.EVERY1) based on a front-wheel drive version of the platform by 2027.
Additionally, Volkswagen says the ID.EVERY1 will be the first car to feature a "fundamentally new and powerful software architecture," likely the result of a partnership with Rivian announced last year. The automaker describes the platform as one that will allow the concept car to be more future-proof, adding new features throughout its lifecycle.
According to Volkswagen, the ID.EVERY1 concept can reach speeds of over 130 km/h thanks to a 70 kW (94 hp) electric motor. Volkswagen estimates its range at at least 250 km. The compact electric car is just 3.88 m long, which puts it between the outdated up! and the ID.2all. The ID.EVERY1 seats four people and has a boot volume of 306 liters.
Volkswagen plans to produce and sell a production version of the ID.EVERY1 in Europe.
