Hollywood actor Val Kilmer, known for his roles in the films Top Gun and Batman Forever, has died at the age of 65. According to his daughter Mercedes, Kilmer died of pneumonia, the BBC reports.
Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, but he successfully fought off the disease. He recently reprised his role as fighter pilot Iceman, starring alongside Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, due out in 2022.
Kilmer's character was a brash but cool-headed rival to Tom Cruise's Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in the original film. The sequel skillfully integrated Kilmer's off-screen health issues into the plot.
In 2021, Kilmer released the autobiographical documentary Val, which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival. The film features 40 years of home recordings, including his conversations with a voice machine after being diagnosed with throat cancer.
