The US has created a "cellless" battery technology for electric vehicles that can increase mileage by 50%

The US company 24M Technologies has announced the development of a new battery design for electric vehicles that allows for an increase in range on a single charge by up to 50% without increasing the size of the battery pack. Interesting Engineering reports.

The technology is called Electrode-to-Pack (ETOP) and was first introduced in October 2023. Its feature is the rejection of traditional cells: instead of placing electrodes in separate cells, the company proposes to form sealed pairs of anode and cathode and integrate them immediately into the battery pack. This allows to increase the proportion of energy-storing materials from 30–60% to approximately 80% of the total volume.

According to 24M management, this approach reduces the weight and volume of inactive components, simplifies production and reduces costs. The assembly process includes sealing the electrodes, laying them, connecting them and closing the battery pack. The company notes that a relatively small investment is enough to start production, since the entire process can be implemented on a single production line.

In addition, 24M integrates its own solutions to improve safety and efficiency: Impervio, a special separator that reduces the risk of damage, and Eternalyte, an electrolyte that can operate at extreme temperatures. Combined, these technologies, the company estimates, can provide a battery pack with a range of more than 1,000 miles on a single charge.

We previously reported that South Korean scientists have developed a new battery technology that demonstrates significantly higher energy density and longer service life compared to current models.
