Humanoid robots take part in Beijing half marathon for the first time

- 19 April, 04:07 PM

The world's first half marathon with the participation of humanoid robots took place in the high-tech district of E-Town, in southern Beijing, NotebookChek reports, citing the CGTN channel.

The event featured over 9,000 human runners and 20 robot teams showcasing their technical capabilities. The main goal of the robots' participation was to test their endurance, stability, and energy efficiency.

The robots, which ranged in height from 76 to 180 cm and weighed up to 88 kg, worked autonomously or with the support of their developers. The fastest robot, named Tiangong, completed the distance in 2 hours and 40 minutes, while the fastest human runner clocked 1 hour and 11 minutes. Some of the robots encountered difficulties, such as staggering, stumbling or needing assistance to move forward.

This experiment was an important step in the development of robotics, demonstrating the ability of robots to cover long distances. Although they are not yet efficient enough for everyday use, their participation in the half marathon opens up new prospects for applications in logistics, construction and healthcare.
