Code has been discovered in version 7.38 of the Google Photos app that suggests it's testing a new editing feature called "Help me edit." It allows users to enter text instructions for photo changes that will be performed by Gemini-based AI, Android Authority reports.
The feature, which was previously enabled by Telegram user Zach Allen, is implemented as a text field in the updated editing interface. The user can describe the desired changes, for example, replacing the colors of the object, and the system will offer appropriate options. In general, the new interface resembles the one used in the separate Gemini application, rather than the standard Google Photos editor.
"Help me edit" is similar to the "Reimagine" feature already available in Google Photos for some Pixel devices. However, the new option supports more extensive commands, while "Reimagine" is limited to using short queries.
The feature is not currently available to the general public and has not been officially announced by Google. The discovery was made possible by parsing the Google Photos APK file, which allows predicting future updates based on unfinished code.
