Developer Kieron Quinn has introduced the uTag app, which extends the functionality of Samsung SmartTag trackers to Android devices, not limiting them to just Galaxy phones.
Previously, these trackers only worked through the Samsung SmartThings Find app and required device verification. With uTag, you can bypass this limitation and set up SmartTags on any smartphone running Android 11 or later.
uTag replicates SmartThings Find's features, such as precise tracking for Ultra Wideband (UWB) devices like the Pixel 9 Pro, viewing and editing tracker data, calling the tracker, setting a ringtone, and offline searching. The app also allows users to participate in the "Find my Everything" search network.
Additionally, uTag offers features not available in the SmartThings app, including widgets, biometric data entry, location history export support, and offline location support.
The app can be downloaded from GitHub, where it is available as an open source to verify its legitimacy. It does not require rooting the device, although there is a risk that Samsung may restrict access through APIs required for uTag to work.
