Former Ubisoft executives sentenced for harassment and violence
A French court has convicted three former Ubisoft executives of sexual and psychological harassment. Serge Ascoye (ex-creative director), Tommy Francois (former vice president of the editorial team) and Guillaume Patru (former game director) received suspended sentences and fines, Libération reports.
Serge Ascoye received an 18-month suspended sentence and a €45,000 fine for indecent behavior, racist comments and sexual harassment, including insults to a Muslim employee. Tommy Francois was sentenced to three years suspended and a €30,000 fine for systematic harassment, public humiliation and attempted sexual assault at a party. Guillaume Patrue received a 12-month suspended sentence and a €10,000 fine for psychological pressure and violent behavior.
The investigation began after employee complaints in 2020. A survey of 14,000 employees found that 25% had experienced unethical behavior and 20% did not feel safe. Five former managers, including Askoe and Francois, were arrested in 2023. Tommy Francois said his actions were part of a "culture that permeates the company."
Ubisoft declined to comment on the verdict.
