Facebook integrates artificial intelligence into its dating service

Meta has announced the launch of a new tool on its Facebook Dating service — an artificial intelligence-based chatbot that will help users find partners, TechCrunch reports.

According to the company, the assistant can refine search parameters, for example, finding "a girl from Brooklyn who works in the technology sector," or help users improve their own profile.

Additionally, the service has introduced a Meet Cute feature, which offers one "surprise match" generated by an algorithm every week. Meta explains that this feature is intended to reduce the fatigue of constant swiping.

The company said that over the past year, the number of matches on Facebook Dating among users aged 18 to 29 has increased by 10%. This is despite the fact that hundreds of thousands of people in this age category create new profiles on the service every month. At the same time, the audience of Facebook Dating is still much smaller than that of its competitors. For example, Tinder has about 50 million active users daily.

The use of artificial intelligence has already become standard in many dating apps. Match Group, which owns Tinder, Hinge, and OKCupid, partnered with OpenAI last year and invested more than $20 million in developing AI features. Among them are automatic profile photo selection and algorithmic matchmaking. Hinge also has an option to improve answers to profile questions using AI.

Bumble is also implementing similar tools. The company's founder, Whitney Wolfe Hurd, even suggested that in the future users could have personal "AI concierges" that would interact with each other to determine compatibility.

Thus, Meta joins the general trend of integrating artificial intelligence into dating services, trying to strengthen Facebook Dating's position in the market.
