In 2024, PC gamers spent $37.3 billion on games, up just 0.1% from 2023. Of that amount, 58%, or $24.4 billion, was spent on microtransactions, Insider Gaming reports, citing a Newzoo report.

Microtransaction spending increased by 1.4% compared to 2023. The top three most popular games were Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Roblox, and Fortnite.

Meanwhile, spending on PC add-ons and DLC increased by 0.8% to $5.3 billion, accounting for 14% of total player spending. The biggest contributors were add-ons for Diablo 4, Elden Ring, and World of Warcraft.

While most segments saw stability or slight growth, spending on premium games declined by 2.6%. In 2024, gamers will spend $10.7 billion on new PC games.

Newzoo predicts that numbers will rise again in 2025, with total PC gaming revenue reaching $37.9 billion. By 2027, the PC gaming market is estimated to exceed $40 billion.
