Taiwan-based TSMC , one of the world's leading semiconductor manufacturers, announced that it will produce 30% of its most advanced chips at its Phoenix, Arizona, plants once all six planned facilities are operational, the company said in its latest investor report, Axios reports.

According to CEO CC Wei, the project in the US will help create a modern chip manufacturing facility that will operate independently and support the development of the US AI economy. It will also reduce dependence on Taiwan in an unstable global situation.

TSMC has already invested $165 billion in developing production in Arizona. The first plant began operation in late 2024, the second is already under construction, and the third, which will use the most advanced processes, is planned to begin construction by the end of 2025.

Further plans include the construction of three more factories, two advanced chip packaging centers, and a large R&D center. Details on the implementation timeline have not yet been disclosed.

This move by TSMC is part of a general trend of moving production closer to consumers and strengthening the US technology base, especially against the backdrop of growing competition from China.

Incidentally, Wei also denied rumors of a potential collaboration with Intel, stating that the company is not in talks about joint ventures or technology sharing.
