The next few generations of Google Tensor chips will reportedly be manufactured by TSMC
There is new confirmation that Google has decided to change the manufacturer of its proprietary Tensor processors used in Pixel smartphones. Previously, Samsung was engaged in the production of Tensor chips, but the new generations of these chips will be manufactured by the Taiwanese company TSMC.
According to DigiTimes, Google has inked a deal with TSMC to manufacture the chips for the next 3-5 years. This means that the Taiwanese manufacturer will be responsible for producing Tensor not only for the Pixel 10 series, which is due out this fall, but also for future models, including the Pixel 14.
Switching to TSMC could have a positive impact on the performance and power efficiency of Tensor chips. Previously, processors manufactured by Samsung have not always met the high standards of flagship devices. TSMC, on the other hand, has a reputation for being a reliable manufacturer, as evidenced by the successful release of powerful chips for other companies such as Apple and Qualcomm.
This move by Google could make Pixel smartphones more competitive by providing them with better performance and energy efficiency.
