The US Department of Justice continues to insist that Google sell the Chrome browser

- 9 March, 05:01 PM

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has reiterated the need to sell the Google Chrome browser to reduce the company's monopoly in the Internet search market, Android Police reports.

In its final 27-page document filed with the court, the Justice Department, along with the attorneys general of 38 states, stressed that selling Chrome would create new opportunities for competitors and provide access to search without Google's monopoly control.

The Justice Department is also considering requiring Google to sell its Android operating system if the proposed measures fail. At the same time, the department dropped restrictions on the company's acquisition of artificial intelligence-related assets after startup Anthropic said that losing funding from Google could weaken its competitiveness.

Google, for its part, plans to appeal the decision, arguing that such measures would harm consumers and the economy. A court ruling on the proposed measures is expected by the summer, but the final outcome could be delayed by appeals.
