The next Xbox will be released in 2027 and will not look like traditional consoles - insider
Recently, rumors have surfaced online that developers are already preparing their projects for the next generation of Xbox. In particular, it was about Call of Duty 2026, but according to new data, Microsoft's next console will be released in 2027 and will be quite unconventional. This is reported by Insider Gaming.
The latest Xbox Series X|S consoles are lagging far behind the PlayStation 5 in terms of sales, and Microsoft is choosing a strategy where the physical console ceases to be a core part of the brand, giving way to expanding its services and games across all available platforms. As part of this shift, the company may release a non-traditional console that will become a PC with a special system optimized for TVs and gamepads.
Insider Jez Corden revealed on The Xbox Two podcast that developers will be making games for Windows PCs in the future, but in a way that they know exactly what the specs are and work to optimize for them. He also noted that the next Xbox will be released in 2027, and the announcement of CoD 2026 is more about making sure developers understand what they're working with.
The idea is that the next Xbox will have a compact form factor with a shell specifically designed for TVs, and will be compatible with all types of peripherals, including mice and keyboards. In addition, the system will likely be able to be switched between game mode and standard Windows mode, allowing the console to be used like a regular desktop PC.
We remind you that in late 2024, there were also reports that Microsoft was developing a portable console, but it will not be released soon.
