The launch of Tesla's new low-cost electric car is delayed by several months
Information has emerged that Tesla is postponing the launch of a new budget electric car model by several months, Reuters reports.
It was originally planned that this model, which is a simplified version of the Model Y, would debut in the first half of 2025. However, now, according to new data, its release is expected no earlier than the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026. The reasons for the delay were not disclosed, but it is known that the company is facing a decline in sales due to the aging model range, as well as due to the political activities of CEO Elon Musk and Donald Trump's new tariffs.
It was previously reported that Tesla was developing a new platform that was supposed to be 50% cheaper to produce in order to ensure the affordability of the new car, which was supposed to cost $25,000. However, Musk changed plans and decided to focus on making the existing Model Y and Model 3 cheaper. It is currently expected that the new electric car model, codenamed E41, will be 20% cheaper to produce than the updated Model Y.
Tesla plans to produce 250,000 units of the new model in the US by 2026, as well as expand production to the European and Chinese markets. However, whether this will help improve the company's financial situation remains to be seen.
