Tesla is already training its updated Full Self-Driving (FSD) system with major improvements in video compression and 10 times more parameters, the automaker's CEO Elon Musk said on social media.
The billionaire also said that a public release is likely to happen at the end of next month if further testing is successful. However, Musk has not provided any other details yet.
FSD is a semi-autonomous system that aims to help the company's electric vehicles navigate traffic situations with minimal driver involvement. It helps with things like autopilot navigation, automatic lane changes, overtaking slower vehicles, parking, and road marking recognition. However, drivers still have to keep their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road at all times.
The system is based on artificial intelligence models that use cameras and sensors in electric vehicles to assess the situation around them. Musk's comment about ten times more parameters means that the model will be trained on a much larger amount of data, which means that FSD will likely be able to better assess the situation on the road and handle difficult situations more confidently.
FSD is also one of the core technologies for Tesla's robo-taxi, which launched in Austin, Texas, in late June 2025. After the launch, some traffic situations began to spread across the network, which worried regulators, and even before that, Texas officials asked to postpone the release, but did not receive any response.
