Tesla has been testing its fully autonomous Model Y electric vehicles in Austin, Texas, for the past few days, CEO Elon Musk said in a statement.

He said there were no accidents during the tests, and the tests themselves began a month earlier than planned. He also noted that the first fully autonomous electric cars will begin to arrive at customers next month. In early May, Tesla also demonstrated how the Model Y leaves the factory on its own.

This news is good for Tesla, especially since the company plans to launch its Cybercab robo-taxi service on June 12, 2025, according to Bloomberg. The publication also notes that during the Model Y tests, the company's employees were in the passenger seats, with no one behind the wheel.

Tesla unveiled its Cybercab robotaxi at a special event in October 2024, where it also showed off the humanoid robot Optimus. The robotaxi will have space for two passengers, will not have a steering wheel or pedals, and will cost less than $30,000.

As for the potential launch of the robo-taxi service in June, this information has been circulating for a long time. In January 2025, Musk himself announced a launch in June, and in April, Tesla expanded internal testing among employees in Austin.
