British studio Supermassive Games, known for Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures Anthology, has announced the layoff of 36 employees due to the difficult situation in the gaming industry. The studio explained that it is changing the team structure to adapt to the new conditions, Engadget reports.
The studio also revealed that due to the cut, the release of the sci-fi horror Directive 8020 is being pushed back to the first half of 2026. The game was supposed to be released on October 2, 2025. As for the release of Little Nightmares III, it will take place on October 10 without any changes.
The previous major cutback at Supermassive occurred in February last year, when the studio lost about 90 employees.
Supermassive is the latest studio to be hit by layoffs in the gaming industry. King (Candy Crush) recently laid off at least 200 employees as part of Microsoft's restructuring, and Virtuos, the studio behind Oblivion Remastered, shed 7% of its staff.
