Strava buys personalized running training app Runna

The developer of the popular running app Strava announced the acquisition of Runna, a company specializing in creating personalized training programs for runners.

According to Strava CEO Michael Martin, users of the service logged nearly a billion runs in 2024 alone. 43% of Strava users want to run a long distance in 2025, so the demand for training plans is growing.

The Runna app will remain a separate platform, and will continue to be developed by the same development team. Strava will invest in the continued development of Runna. The app’s co-founders, Dom Maskell and Ben Parker, noted that this partnership will further improve the platform for runners around the world.

The deal price was not disclosed. At the time of the acquisition, Runna was a profitable business with a team of around 150 people and around £8.2 million in accounts. The app is used by over 3,000 paying subscribers in 180 countries around the world.
