Steel Hunters, a free-to-play futuristic PvPvE robot shooter from Wargaming that was released in Early Access in April 2025, is shutting down, according to an official statement from the studio.

"Hello Hunters! Today we have some difficult news: we have decided to end the development of Steel Hunters. You have given us a lot of passion and support, but unfortunately it has become impossible to continue development. We understand your disappointment and share it with you," Wargaming says.

The game's servers will remain up for another 90 days, meaning it will be playable until approximately October 8, 2025. In the meantime, Steel Hunters will receive several updates, such as custom matches, which will add support for custom games. In the meantime, Wargaming will unlock all available hunters and hold a final tournament, more on that later.

The project's closure is most likely due to low online traffic. According to SteamDB statistics, Steel Hunters had a peak online traffic on Steam at release of 4,479 players. However, after that, it dropped rapidly, and in recent weeks it has not even reached the 200-person mark.

Our Steel Hunters review noted that the game had an engaging combat system, a variety of playstyles across different mechs, and a clever mix of battle royale and escape mechanics. However, there were more flaws, including a lack of content, maps, and NPC diversity, some performance and balance issues, and flat levels.
