The highest grossing Steam games for May 2025
Valve has released a list of the 50 most profitable games and expansions released in May 2025. In addition to expected hits like DOOM: The Dark Ages, the list also includes several unexpected and unconventional projects.
The most successful projects in the "Gold" category include 10 new games and two expansions, which we will discuss in more detail. Steam does not indicate which of these games was more successful than the other, so the list is random, but only those projects that have sold 100 thousand copies or more fall into the category.
One of the biggest hits of the past month was DOOM: The Dark Ages, which, despite its simultaneous release on Game Pass, also attracted a significant number of players on Steam. It is a prequel to 2016's DOOM and DOOM Eternal, which sends Doomslayer into a sinister war with Hell in the Middle Ages.
The comedy multiplayer game Guilty as Sock! sends players into a courtroom, where socks play the roles of lawyers, prosecutors, and judges. Players have to use absurd evidence, make crazy arguments, and make verdicts. Even the game's rather late release on May 29 didn't prevent it from getting into the "Gold" category.
In 9 Kings, a fast-paced city-building roguelike game, players must develop their empire and defeat powerful rival kings in epic battles to become the strongest of them all.
There was also Elden Ring Nightreign, a three-player cooperative spin-off of Elden Ring in the roguelike survival action genre. On its release day, May 30, the game collected over 300,000 online players on Steam alone.
Also on the list is FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time, a slow-life role-playing game where you can freely switch between 14 unique jobs and enjoy a carefree life in a fantasy world.
The Precinct, which was also a huge success, will send players to the city of Averno in 1983, where gangsters have taken over the streets. You will have to clean up the city, find out the truth, and go on a destructive race.
The "Gold" category also includes two racing games - the new F1 2025 simulator, as well as the Polish JDM: Japanese Drift Master, where players have to drive along difficult Japanese roads and master the art of drifting. Currently, there are two add-ons here - Season 4 for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 - BlackCell and the The Three Kingdoms add-on for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. The category also includes the sequel to the card roguelite Monster Train 2 and, unfortunately, the Russian RoadCraft from Saber Interactive.
The "Silver" category, which includes games that sold between 50,000 and 100,000 copies, also includes 12 games:
- Revenge of the Savage Planet
- Blacksmith Master
- Cubic Odyssey
- Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Battle Destiny Remastered
- Car Dealer Simulator
- Cash Cleaner Simulator
- Capcom Fighting Collection 2
- Drop Duchy
- Nice Day for Fishing
- Tower Dominion
- Tinkerlands
- BioGenesis add-on for Stellaris
In the Bronze category, which includes games that have sold up to 50,000 copies, there are a total of 26 projects and even a few 18+ games. Among them are the Deluxe Edition for Elden Ring Nightreign, Yareli Prime - a Prime Access weapon set for Warframe, the new Battle for Brooklyn DLC for The Division 2, and more.
