Valve has released a major update for the Steam client, which fixes a number of bugs and also adds some useful improvements, such as displaying CPU temperature in the performance monitor on Windows and Linux and accessibility features.

The developers have improved the display of fonts and UI elements in the game overlay, and also fixed performance bugs for Vulkan, OpenGL and D3D12. At the same time, an accessibility menu has been added with settings for high contrast, reduced motion and UI scaling. The display of fonts and UI elements in the game overlay has also been improved for users with DPI scaling > 100%

Performance Monitor now shows CPU temperature on Windows and Linux. On Windows, this uses a special driver that can be disabled in the settings. It only works when Performance Monitor is open in full CPU detail mode.

We also fixed a bug that could cause performance to differ from actual FPS in some games with NVIDIA DLSS technology.

New features include support for the GameInput API and new controllers, such as the PDP REALMz Wireless Controller for Switch, as well as fixes for device duplication and incorrect opening of configurations. Meanwhile, Steam has improved high-bitrate video playback.

Additionally, the game pages in the store have been expanded for owners of large screens. Other improvements include easier search, genre display, and trailers. There's also a warning that macOS 11 support will end on October 15, 2025.

Recall that Steam also recently introduced language-based game reviews, which will help combat massive negative reviews from players from one region. Meanwhile, the latest hardware survey showed that 32 GB of RAM is becoming the new standard.
