Steam Online reaches 40 million users for the first time

- 3 March, 03:32 PM

The number of concurrent Steam online users surpassed 40 million for the first time in the game store's history. This happened on March 2, 2025. The day before, on March 1, a record was also set for the number of users in games – 12,812,379.

This figure is the result of the steady growth of the platform, which first appeared in 2003 as a client for updating Valve games, and in 2005 expanded to a game store for games from other publishers. Over the past 5 years, the maximum number of Steam online users has doubled. The average daily online is over 30 million.

The new record was set after the release of the very popular Monster Hunter Wilds, which attracted a peak online audience of over 1.3 million players. Other popular games include Valve's own projects, such as Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2, as well as PUBG, Marvel Rivals, Naraka: Bladepoint, GTA V, RUST and Apex Legends. Source SDK Base 2007, a set of tools used for role-playing servers in the aforementioned GTA V, is also quite popular.
