Steam servers crashed due to Hollow Knight: Silksong launch

- 4 September, 06:30 PM

On September 4, the long-awaited release of Hollow Knight: Silksong finally took place, and players immediately rushed to buy the game, which the servers of major game stores such as Steam, PlayStation, and Nintendo could not cope with.

Users began to complain en masse on X (formerly Twitter) that Steam stopped working around 5:00 PM, when Hollow Knight: Silksong went on sale. Because Team Cherry did not open pre-orders for their game, everyone started buying it at the same time as the release, creating a huge load on the servers.

In addition to the complaints on X, the platform status tracking site DownDetector also shows a similar picture, with reports of Steam issues starting at around 4:47 p.m. A similar, albeit much smaller, increase was also seen on the PlayStation Network, which, however, had issues at 4 a.m.

Now, things are looking up, as Hollow Knight: Silksong already has over 100,000 players online on Steam alone. There have been no prior reviews of the game, so press and player feedback is just starting to come in, but it looks like the wait was worth it.
