Steam Deck portable console gets battery saving feature in new beta update

- 10 May, 03:05 AM

Valve has added a new feature in the latest beta update for its Steam Deck portable gaming console that allows users to set a maximum battery charge level. The innovation is aimed at increasing battery life, as limiting the charge helps reduce battery degradation.

When activated, the device stops charging at 80%, which is especially useful for users who often keep their Steam Deck plugged in or docked. The feature can be found in the Power section of the device's settings.

In addition to the charging limit, the update also changed the location of some settings. For example, the battery level display is now in the Power menu, and the screen dimming and sleep settings have also been moved to this section.

As NotebookCheck reports, a similar solution has already been implemented in the competing Lenovo Legion Go device, which indicates the growing attention of manufacturers to optimizing battery performance in portable game consoles.
