Steam will now block games at the request of payment companies

- 17 July, 06:25 PM

Steam is adding a new rule that has already banned many adult games from the platform. The blocking is not the store itself, but the payment systems used on Steam, writes Engadget.

The new rule states that "content that may violate the rules and standards set by Steam's payment systems and associated card networks and banks, or internet service providers" may be banned and removed from the platform.

In simple terms, payment companies can decide that a game violates their rules and ask Steam to remove it from the store. This rule will mostly apply to games with adult content.

The new rule is already having some effects. In particular, according to SteamDB, a lot of games with the word "incest" in the title have already been removed from Steam. The reasons for the blocking are not officially disclosed, but they are quite obvious.
