The cause of the global Starlink outage was technical work

- 28 July, 01:33 PM

SpaceX has explained that the recent major outage in Starlink was caused by a software update. According to the company, during the procedure, the network was overloaded on ground computing clusters, which led to the failure of essential services. This is what PCMag writes.

The outage began on July 24, around 10:00 p.m. Kyiv time, and affected the entire world, including the Ukrainian military . During peak hours, Starlink serves more than 6 million customers worldwide. The vast majority were able to restore access to the network within 2.5 hours, but some subscribers complained of connection problems until the next day. This was the longest Starlink outage since the service launched.

After the update, some users noticed improved connection speeds of up to 250 Mbps and above, compared to the previous average of 110–150 Mbps. This led to speculation that the update was aimed at improving network performance.

Meanwhile, other users are reporting continued speed and stability issues. The Starlink support page currently recommends restarting equipment, including third-party devices.
