Spotify is rolling out an update to its Android Auto app, adding a new interface and support for the Jam feature, which allows passengers to join a music queue during their journeys, 9to5Google reports.
Among the main changes is improved access to offline content: a separate section for downloaded tracks has appeared in the library, and special indicators are displayed when viewing albums and playlists.
The update also brings a separate search page that can be called up via a new floating shortcut. Previously, searching was only possible via Google Assistant and would immediately start playback.
The biggest innovation is Spotify Jam. A QR code appears on the playback screen that other users can scan to add tracks to the queue. The driver remains the host of the session, with the ability to add and remove guests. This feature will be especially useful for shared rides.
The update is rolling out with Spotify version 9.0.58.596. Google says similar features will soon be available on other services, including Amazon Music and YouTube Music.
