Spotify is preparing to launch HiFi streaming — mentions of lossless were found in the application code

Spotify has new signs that the company is finally preparing to launch lossless streaming, which was announced back in 2021.

As noticed by the Spicetify project, which allows you to modify the desktop client, there are references to lossless mode in the updated version of the application. The screenshots show that the new quality setting has appeared in the streaming settings, as well as in the section for connecting devices. Lossless support is also mentioned in the code of the web player and the Spotify Connect function.

The feature hasn't officially launched yet, but these changes suggest it's close. According to sources, Spotify is planning a separate Music Pro plan with improved sound quality, the ability to mix tracks from different artists, and improved concert ticketing capabilities, which will cost about $5.99 more than the standard subscription.

Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Tidal have all offered lossless streaming for a long time. Spotify announced “Spotify HiFi” back in 2021, but for some reason hasn’t implemented the feature yet. In 2024, the company's CEO Daniel Ek said that this was an expanded "deluxe" version of the service.
