Spotify has already prepared an app with payments outside of Apple billing on iOS
Spotify has sent a new version of its app to the App Store that introduces alternative payment methods for users, but only in the US for now. This was made possible after the court ruling in the Epic Games v. Apple case, which prohibits Apple from blocking third-party payment systems in apps. This is reported by The Verge.
The company says users will now be able to see prices directly in the app, follow a link to the website to sign up, change plans, such as from individual to family, and choose payment methods other than Apple. Spotify also hints that this opens the way to new monetization formats, including buying audiobooks directly.
Spotify called this "the most important step against Apple's harmful practices" and emphasized that the court made a similar decision four years ago, but it was only now that it was technically implemented.
Apple has yet to approve the update, a subject that has been a source of conflict in the past. Meanwhile, Patreon has also said it will submit a similar update to its app in the near future.
ADDED:
Apple has approved an update for Spotify. Version 9.0.40 of the application has already appeared in the US App Store.
