Sora will officially feature fictional characters
OpenAI is working to officially add fictional characters, such as Pokemon or Disney characters, to its Sora artificial intelligence video generation tool.
Bill Peebles, head of Sora at OpenAI, shared plans for the social media update. He said that the ability to create videos with licensed fictional characters is in the company's plans and he hopes to be able to share more soon.
This statement came shortly after OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced changes to the rules for using copyrighted characters.
In his blog, Altman writes that Sora will receive more granular control over character generation. OpenAI will create fictional characters only with the company's consent and with additional settings so that rights holders can decide exactly how their characters will be used.
Additionally, rights holders will have a specific monetization model in which OpenAI will share a portion of the revenue with rights holders. The company is still working on the model, and Altman notes that it will require additional tweaks, but could be available soon.
Recall that a little earlier, OpenAI introduced the second generation of the Sora video generation model, and at the same time a new iOS application, which almost immediately topped the App Store. However, users also noticed that deleting their Sora account is not so easy, as it is immediately linked to the ChatGPT account, even though the application requires additional registration.
