Sony has introduced a new flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VII, with a large 1/1.56" ultra-wide-angle camera. Outwardly, it is almost no different from its predecessor, but it has received noticeable technical improvements.

The Xperia 1 VII features a 6.5-inch 1080x2340 OLED Bravia display with 120Hz refresh rate and increased brightness, a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, and 12GB of RAM.

Sony has integrated two light sensors (one on the front, one on the back) to help precisely adjust brightness. There's also automatic color adjustment for different lighting conditions.

The device retains a headphone jack, microSD slot, and a 5,000 mAh battery with 30W charging. Sony claims that the smartphone will have up to two days of battery life.

The smartphone also comes with a set of battery-saving features — Xperia Adaptive Charging and Battery Care — that provide 4 years of uninterrupted battery life. Sony claims that its battery will lose less than 20% of its capacity after two years of use.

The main change is the ultra-wide-angle camera with brighter optics (f/2.0) and a 1/1.56" sensor, which is twice as large as the previous one. The main camera and telephoto lens with continuous optical zoom have not changed. The cameras support advanced AI-based features, including eye autofocus and auto HDR.

The smartphone will ship with Android 15 and will receive at least four OS updates and six years of security patches. Sales will start in June 2025, priced at €1,499.
