Sony is discontinuing production of Xperia smartphones and transferring it to third-party manufacturers

It has been reported that Sony has decided to stop producing its Xperia smartphones in-house and outsource the process to third-party OEMs. GSMArena reports this with reference to Japanese publication Sumahodigest. The company already uses this model for its mid-range devices, but now it has become known that this decision will also apply to its flagship models.

According to Japanese sources, this move is not a temporary one, but rather a long-term strategy. Sony's production sites in Thailand and China no longer include smartphones in their product lists, indicating a complete cessation of their production at their own factories. Despite the change in approach, Sony will continue to control the design and specifications of its devices.

The first flagship smartphone assembled by a third-party manufacturer was the recently introduced Xperia 1 VII, which retained all the key features of the brand. This strategy is expected to allow the company to reduce costs in the mobile business while maintaining its presence in the smartphone market.
