Qualcomm has decided not to move forward with the production of the 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chip, which was supposed to be manufactured at Samsung factories. According to insider @Jukanlosreve, this variant of the chip has disappeared from Qualcomm's current specifications, indicating that the project may be discontinued.
It was previously reported that Qualcomm was preparing two versions of the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chip: one based on TSMC's 3nm technology (marked 8850-T), the other - 2nm from Samsung (8850-S). Currently, only the SM8850 variant remains in the system, which probably corresponds only to TSMC's 3nm solution. The reasons for abandoning the 2nm Samsung variant are still unknown, so we can only guess about them.
The insider also reported that the prototype device with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 has risen in price significantly - its cost for companies planning to purchase the chip has reached $15 thousand. In addition, the characteristics of the upcoming chip labeled SM8845, which will probably be called Snapdragon 8s Gen 5, are being reviewed.
Thus, we can expect that from the end of 2025, most Android flagships will only have the 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 from TSMC.
